Abstract: The paper offers an outline of the history of the poetics of Serbian poetry. It initially focuses on poetic self-awareness as a defining characteristic of modern poetry, and then on different types of relations among poetic conceptions emerging in different periods/styles in the history of Serbian literature. Finally, it provides the description of their characteristics, which leads to the conclusion that a dynamic polylogue among different forms of poetry writing in the Serbian language constitutes one of the key paths/verticals in the history of Serbian literature.
