Abstract: The presented publication deals with the category of animacy and its relation to declension in selected Slavic languages. Animate categories are examined in Czech, Russian and Belarusian. Subsequently, the extent to which the category of animacy affects the declension of masculine nouns in Czech, Belarusian and Russian is compared, and examples of the declension of vital and non-vital masculines in the tables are given.
