Abstract: In the present article, the author tries to examine the artistic qualities of various Baroque sermons. The particular texts demonstrate that conceptual and emblematic ten- dencies in sermons cannot prove their artistic value entirely, and therefore other criteria must be taken into consideration. Breaking the scheme of mechanic transposition of emblematic motifs or motifs from exempla, and, above all, the restriction of didactic exposition of allegory, which can be found only in selected parts of homiletic texts, rather than in the whole sermons, are relevant for the transformation of sermons into artistic prose as such.
