Abstract: Willa Cather is often named „the beloved author of the American people“. A significant place in her prose fiction is taken by her characters, natives of the Midwest, many of them of Slavic and Scandinavian origin. The themes in the work of Cather are related to their lives, the fate of the immigrants and this justifies the interest in her prose fiction in the Slavic nations of Eastern and Central Europe.
