Abstract: The present article is dedicated to Vatroslav Jagić (1838 – 1923), one of the founding fathers of Slavic Philology. It was in 2018 that the latter had its 180th birthday. Vatroslav Jagić had extremely broad scientific interests and his contributions are not restricted only to theoretical studies. One must also remember his merit in the establishment of academic centres in Slavistics in Europe at the end of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century.
