Abstract: The article examines a specific group of Bulgarian nouns with varying gender (nomina heterogena) which have semantic differences between the two gender variations. The aim of this paper is to show examples of context-based gender variation as regards the above-mentioned nouns and to compare their lexicographic description in three dictionaries of the Bulgarian language.
