Abstract: Thе paper examines the Russian children illustrated book as а specific artefact in the context of artistic search in the culture of the first half of the 20th century. The examination observes how the symbiosis between visual and verbal text has been attained in the first plасе by iconotext close to the aesthetics of lubok or even directly influenced by this aesthetics. In this context, the contribution of authors from various artistic schools and trends of Russian modern and avant-garde is emphasized. The fruitfulness of this tendency is illustrated using the names of authors of 50-s and 60-s.
