Abstract: The article attempts to re-read the pages of the world famous novel The Master and Margarita through the prism of the sacred and the profane. The semantics of these concepts is defined through the work of the philosopher and historian of world religions Mircea Eliade The Sacred and the Profane. Ha-Notsri and the Master are represented as seekers and prophets of the sacred, and the comic characters – the inhabitants of new Moscow – fall into the chronotope of the profane. The characteristics of Bulgakovʼs poetics are also analyzed, revealing the unique artistic world of his work.
