Abstract: The article presents the most important aspects of what is called the „gender turn“ – the gender criticism approach in Slavic literature, literary criticism and theory at the turn of the 21st This period saw a turn to femininity, inspired by, for example, the impact of Western feminist thought, the development of research of the Polish tradition of emancipation and women’s writing, new trends in Western studies in the area of humanities, or gender mainstreaming in European Union policies. The author briefly characterizes the similarities and differences in the historical conditions for the development of feminist discourse in the Slavic countries, and then focuses on the period of the political transition in the 1990s and the subsequent decade. She indicates various political and cultural determinants of the gender discourse of this time in the countries of Southern, Eastern and Western Slavdom, emphasizing the role of international projects and plat- forms for exchanging ideas and experiences in the circulation of this discourse, to finally indicate issues related to the emancipation of sexual minorities.

Since the article was written in the first half of the first decade of the 21st century, the issues are presented in that time frame.
