Abstract: The concept of „real wise man“ from the famous writer’s statement is discussed in this work (after А. Chudakov and in connection with the current problem concerning the philosophical beginning of Chekhov’s works): „Between ‘there is God’ and ‘there isn’t God’ lies a whole huge field which a real wise man passes with an effort…“. The difference between Chekhov’s quest of „real justice“ and relativism of decadents and philosopher V. Rozanov’s omnivorousness is underlined.
