Abstract: The article deals with the early manifestations of the pastoral modus in the 18th century Russian culture. The translations and works by V. Trediakovsky and A. Sumarokov are analyzed in detail; the pastoral genres in the 18th century Russian literature and the reception of translations of ancient bucolic poetry (works by Theocritus, Vergil, Bion, Moschus) are discussed.
