Slaviyanski dialozi’s editorial board policy is to ensure the high academic standards of published research, methodology, and linguistic competence.
All submitted texts are peer reviewed by two independent examiners (reviewers) who are outside of the author’s institution.
The journal’s policy is to follow the principle of bilateral anonymity. The only one who possesses all the information is the chief editor. It is his duty to invite examiners who are specialists in the field of the submitted research. In order to guarantee anonymity, he consults the editorial board only on the topic of the submitted academic manuscripts.
Examiners can be both Bulgarian or international scholars. They are chosen according to their experience and proficiency in the research field of the manuscript, as well as their handle on the language of the manuscript. In the case that a text has been submitted in a non-Bulgarian language, it can be reviewed before it is translated.
All examiners receive both a text and a peer-review evaluation form (see application below). It is advisable that if there are inconsistencies, mistakes, or questions for the author/translator, the examiner should mark them with the Track Changes option within the text itself in such a manner that does not reveal their identity. The deadline each examiner has is 3 (three) weeks after receiving the text.
Examiners evaluate the manuscript according to the following criteria:
- The submitted manuscript should examine problems relevant to the historical development or modern state of Slavic languages, literatures, or cultures.
- The author’s position on the topic must be separate and distinguishable from that of the scientific sources used for the manuscript. Descriptive manuscripts and opinion pieces are not to be tolerated.
- The examiner should evaluate the adequacy of the research methodology, precision of arguments, and correct use of previous research.
- It is imperative that all manuscript preparation guidelines are met.
In case the two examiners’ evaluations are in conflict, the manuscript is then given to a referee who is a member of the editorial board and whose opinion is final.
Manuscripts with two negative reviews are rejected for publication.
