Abstract: The present article discusses the idea of Poland – Bulwark of Christianity as a cultural, religious, spiritual, political and military theory in the Polish baroque historiography of the 17th century. This conception has its specific reflections in the work The Beginning and The Progress of the Muscovite War, written by the Polish nobleman, magnate and military commander of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Stanisław Żółkiewski, where the author presents his memoires describing his campaigns and diplomatic activ- ity in the Polish – Muscovite War.
