Abstract: Negation as a value is the main driving force of the counterculture, whose prominent representative in the field of theatre art is one of the greatest theorists and reformers not only of Polish but also of the world theater – Jerzy Grotowski. The aim of the study is to show how the complex negative strategy of the artist penetrates into every corner of the theater laboratory leading it to a radical transformation, breaking centuries-old stereotypes and establishing the actor as a discoverer.
