Abstract: The article discusses the problem of the typology of aquatic female images and its place in the system of beliefs in the Czech lands. The analysis is based on the representative folklore fairy tales from the period of the Czech National Revival, because, apart from the seeming simplicity of folktales, we can examine them as an encoded source of information about the cultural, and the mythological background of a particular nation. Attention is paid to the features that constitute the nature of those female creatures such as locative, existential and functional characteristics.
