Abstract: The article studies the film translation process from the point of view of subtitling standards. It focuses on the translation of the Czechoslovak movie Samorost and some excerpts from the movies Konec starých časů, Narozeniny režiséra Z. K., and Vesničko má středisková. The article emphasizes the editor’s input into the translator’s work. The examples illustrate the extent to which the translation is edited and the linguistic levels where it’s realized. They are also an evidence of the ways editors and translators interpret film dialogues in relation to various features of Czech and Bulgarian languages
